Live Out Loud is granting scholarships to college-bound Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender high school seniors* who have a strong capacity to "Live Out Loud" and who demonstrate leadership skills at their school and in their community.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong class="title2">OVERVIEW</strong><br />
The Live Out Loud Educational Scholarship was created to provide financial support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) youth who are pursuing a college degree. Through this scholarship, LGBT youth can apply for funding to pay for educational expenses to pursue a degree from an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational program. <strong class="purple">This year Live Out Loud is awarding 4 scholarships for $ 2,500 each</strong>.</p>

<strong class="title2">APPLICATION GUIDELINES &amp; CRITERIA</strong>
<ul >
	<li> This award is open only to Graduating High School Seniors who identify as LGBT, and
to those LGBT graduates who may have deferred attending an educational institution
for one year following graduation.
<li> Applicants need to be from the Tri-State area, including New York, Connecticut, and
New Jersey.
<li> Award criteria are based on the demonstration of past leadership and community
service involvement, academic credentials, personal essay, an individual interview,
financial need and future goals.
<li> Applicants must send (a) the completed application form; (b) TWO letters of
recommendation.
<li> Finalists must participate in an individual interview that will be scheduled in early April
2011.
<li> The scholarships will be <a href="/wp/events/the-young-trailblazers-10th-anniversary-gala/">awarded at a ceremony on April 25, 2011</a>.
<li> All applications must be complete for consideration.
<li> Live Out Loud must receive all applications no later than March 18th, 2011. Any
incomplete applications will not be considered.
<li> Live Out Loud is not required to award all 4 scholarships annually. Awards are given
only to applicants approved by the Scholarship Committee based on the criteria above.

<strong class="title2">SCHOLARSHIP AWARDING PROCESS</strong>
Scholarship awards will not be distributed until Live Out Loud receives all required
documentation, including copy of acceptance letter from the institution the student will be
attending and verification of attendance by the relevant admissions office. Live Out Loud will
distribute awards directly to the educational institution only, and only upon verification of
attendance.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At the <a href="/gala/">Annual Young Trailblazers Benefit Gala in April</a> 2009, Live Out Loud honored four LGBT high school seniors with <a href="/scholarship/">$2500 scholarships</a> in recognition of their outstanding leadership.</p>
<p>With the generous support of the Live Out Loud community, these four young adults are now beginning their college careers, and we are excited to bring you an update on their activities.</p>

Studying: Writing, Literature, and LGBT Studies</div>
Emily is happy to report that she's been paired with a fun roommate from Lebanon who's also gay. She's about to start a work-study job as a first-grade
teaching assistant in Yonkers, and has found time to sign up for a variety of LGBT organizations, including Queer Voice Coalition and Queer People of Color.
Emily says Live Out Loud has "given me one of the best experiences of my life."</td>

Jeremy's Live Out Loud scholarship paid for  his entire first semester -- books and all -- at his community college, and is helping him to save for his
ultimate transfer to a four-year school. Being local, he's surrounded by old friends, and he's looking forward to joining a campus club called GLASS
(Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Supporters).</td>

Kat is already completely consumed with the school newspaper, which featured two of her articles in the first issue of the semester. She hopes to help revive the school's flagging GSA, and also plans to serve as a volunteer when the AIDS quilt visits her school in a few months.</td>

Despite its small campus, Nick says Denison has a thriving gay community, and the entire school is united around a set of core values that make him feel
completely at home. He's already active in Outlook, the school's GSA, and he says his entire experience at Denison so far is everything he had hoped for.</td>
